The First Neo-Symbolist Art Salon<\/b> takes place in Madrid in November, during the celebration of the 5th<\/sup> Gothic Week<\/b>, the only event in Spain entirely dedicated to Gothic culture.<\/p>\n

The collective art show is hosted by the La Corrala Museum of Art<\/b> of UAM Madrid, between October 31st<\/sup> and November 30th <\/sup>2013.<\/p>\n

The exhibition, whose curator is art historian Pedro Ortega <\/b><\/p>\n

Ventureira<\/b>, offers a thematic itinerary through symbolist imagery, reformulated in the 21st<\/sup> century. The salon opened on October 31st<\/sup> with a conference given by Pedro Ortega<\/b>, <\/b>on art in our present day society.<\/p>\n

The photographer Ivan M.I.E.D.H.O. <\/strong><\/a> is one of the artists who participated in the exhibition, presenting three of his most recent works of the Doppelganger <\/b>series:<\/b> Sweet Art-Eminescu and Veronica,<\/i> Lady Dada <\/i>and Regn\u00e4gtleppod<\/i>.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Sweet Art<\/i> focuses on the image of the Romantic poet Mihai Eminescu,<\/b> considered the national poet of Romania. It is not the first time when the artist chooses Eminescu as the center of inspiration for his art. In this new work, however, the artist himself plays the part of the poet, who appears embraced to the woman he loved, Veronica Micle, here embodied by an allusive and sultry feminine model. The work ventures into the depth of the madness that the Romanian poet finally succumbed to, depicting his darkest times, pain and tragic love affair. In Sweet Art<\/i>, the artist deals with the emotional and mental havoc of the bipolar disorder, an illness from which the Romanian poet appears to have suffered.<\/p>\n

In the words of art professor Ana Isabel Diaz Plaza<\/b>: \u201cM.I.E.D.H.O.<\/b> uses the image of the Doppelganger <\/b>to symbolize the participation of others into our lives, our influence on everything that surrounds us, which leads to a culture in continuous extension and globalization. Apart from symbolism, the technical quality of his art stands out. The works are a fusion between photography and painting, a unique artwork of diluting boundaries.\u201d<\/p>\n

The works of art on display during the First Neo-Symbolist Art Salon underwent a selection process by a jury composed by art historian Pedro Ortega Ventureira<\/b>, (UAM), Dr. Miguel Salmer\u00f3n Infante<\/b> (UAM), Ana Isabel D\u00edaz Plaza<\/b> (UAM) and Dr. Lourdes Santamar\u00eda Blasco<\/b> (UMH).<\/p>\n

The First Neo-Symbolist Art Salon<\/b> is organized and sponsored by the Secretary of State for Culture of the Spanish Government and the cultural associations Besarilia and Mentenebre and can be visited at La Corrala Museum <\/b>in Madrid – Calle Carlos Arniches, 3-5, 28005 Madrid- , until November 30th<\/sup>2013.<\/p>\n
